The Colosseum After the Fall of Rome
After Rome fell, the Colosseum was a palace, a castle, a bullring, a den of thieves, and a bustling neighborhood - sometimes at once.

I think the way Japan handles it is quite respectful. Over the last thousand years, there have been cases where iconic shrines have been lost for various reasons and they have been rebuilt faithfully in their original image. The building continues - it doesn't have to be the exact same literal building as the ancient one, as long as it is historically accurate, I think it can be considered a continuation of the same building. Kinkakuji was rebuilt in the 50s, but seems much older culturally. Toki no Kane in Kawagoe was rebuilt in the 1800s, and so on.

I don't think "Fake" is the right word here - as Jason Table said below, "Authentic, just not original." I think most, or at least many, visitors to these ancient sites are aware that what they are seeing is not necessarily the untouched and unaltered remains of monuments and structures from over 2,000 years ago. As far as I know these ancient ruins are not being presented as being totally original either.

I saw this in Hampi in South India, which is a very famous 'ancient 'site. Most of the minuments and temples are of recent construction. As a matter of fact, in a roped off area, 'ancient ' .sculptures were being carved on site, which I'm sure will be finished with a weathered look, as were most of the other structures there. Now, that does not mean that there is nothing ancient and mysterious there: I saw many megalithic ruins surrounding these temples that tourists visit but most will not notice the megalithic hillsides that are clearly constructed, not natural. I believe the real purpose of faking these ancient sites is to hide the actual ruins that decimate the academic narrative of history we have been given. Such sites and ruins have a perfect history about their origin and timelines; the megalithic ones on the other hand, their history is a mystery that academics dare not even address for the most part.

WOW!! Even though most of this was stuff I already knew, most people in California where I live don't know that this is done. I have never left my state, and when I tell someone that; he will usually start talking about someplace that he has visited. And when that place is an ancient landmark afore mentioned tourist will say something like: "...has stood all for millenia!" or "....where(insert any historical figure) did(any old-timey thing)..." hearing these ignorant but all to common statements makes me think that people would take preservation more seriously if they weren't deceived, but I am probably wrong; the travelers I meet seem to want to be deceived

This is a very honest video. Tour books and tour guides have to tell the tourists that the monuments have been rebuilt, if they do not say that, this is a fraud. I think many ancient statues and coins were created in the colonial era.

You should mention Skopje, the capital of former yougoslavic republic of Macedonia, now North Macedonia, is full of fake. Parthenon was staying strong untill the Venetians bombed it in the siege of Athens in 1800's and then "lord" Elgin took a lot marbles in england, so untill these parts come back they should be replaced somehow, but anyway it's normal to remove ancient parts in museums and replace them. You have a lot to learn.. 😉🤣
